- You choose what's sensitive. Add the names and details you want protected. With the privacy gateway on, Walnut swaps those for placeholders on your device before any cloud request, then restores them in the reply.
- You can see every step. The Process view shows exactly what each AI turn did, without keeping a transcript of your life.

Is Walnut an AI subscription?
No. You buy the app once. Cloud AI is optional: use the included starter credits, top up when you want, or bring your own provider key.
Can I use Walnut without any cloud AI?
Yes. Every core feature works locally. You never have to send anything to a cloud provider.
What actually leaves my device?
Only the AI requests you choose to send. With the privacy gateway on, sensitive details are pseudonymised first, and the Process view shows you exactly what happened.
Do my own API keys sync through Walnut?
No. Provider keys stay in your device's Keychain and are never synced or logged.
Do credits expire?
The starter credits included with purchase last six months. Credits you buy afterwards don't expire.
